WOW - WHAT AN AMAZING AND MEMORABLE DAY AT CRUFTS

Foster - Sh Ch Oakberrow WotzinanameThis year we only entered the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas at Crufts and they did really well under breed specialist judge Chris Guest.  Our new girl on the block - Sloane - Oakberrow Let the Fun be Gin was placed 2nd in puppy bitch class and her Grannie Breeze - Oakberrow Gintastic - won the open bitch class.  However Tilly - Ginger Lillie Around Oakberrow - who is owned by Yvonne Aldridge won Best Veteran in Breed and also the Reserve Champion Bitch.  So our lovely girl Gin - Mum to Tilly and Breeze was very proud of her girls.

Photo of Gin with Breeze as a wee puppy.

EVEN BETTER - the Best of Breed German Shorthaired Pointer Navigaremor Hard to Port - HP to his friends - is a son of my handsome boy Foster - Sh Ch Oakberrow Wotzinaname.

So TEAM OAKBERROW had a brilliant Crufts.  In 2020 I am judge at Crufts so looking forward to this with great excitement.

Hungarian Wirehaired Vizlsa called Howie - seeks new home and found it.

Howie on the moveThis lovely two year old castrated boy, is looking for a new home through no fault of his own.  He is obedient and we think he would be happiest living with another dog but certainly an active household.  At present he is living with Yvonne in Somerset and has fitted in really well with her HWVs.  He is docked.  If interested in giving this young handsome lad a home please contact either myself on 01531 640102 or Yvonne on 01984624670.

Howie is a son of Tilly from her first litter.  He has good temperament.  As you can see from the photograph he looks a happy boy.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Oakberrow

Sunnyside our new Greyfaced Dartmoor RamAll of us at Oakberrow would like to send our best wishes to all.  2013 has been a fantastic year with our lovely sheep and dogs achieving more than we had ever hoped for.  The handsome Foster becoming a Show Champion, the equally handsome Noble winning the Interbreed Championship at Moreton in Marsh Show and the baby, pretty Breeze, having such a great start to her showing career.

We are having a little break from the dog shows December/January as the dogs are all busy out doing what they enjoy picking-up and beating on the local shoots.  The older ones not too happy that they cannot be included but I can assure them that OB, Foster, Remy and Beeze as well as Beamish are representing Oakberrow well.

What has 2014 got in store - anyones' guess, but Steve and I have some really good judging appointments already.  Steve is judging Shropshire Sheep and AO Native breed sheep at Stafford Show and I am judging the Coloured Ryelands, Steve is also judging Longhorns at Gillingham and Shaftesbury then then onto Pembroke where he is judging Ryelands.  Steve is also judging the Coloured Ryelands at the Royal Norfolk Show.  Me, I am judging Ryelands at Anglesey Show and also judging GSPs a WELKS in April and then Pointers at Midland Counties next October.  Oh forgot I am also judging tradestands at Surrey County Show in May.  So as you can see a very busy year for us.

Cannot wait to get out showing the Greyface Dartmoors and hope to have them at the Royal Welsh Smallholders Show this year.

The ewes have been scanned and the lambing courses commence early in March 2014, so if interested do get in touch.

Crufts - the greatest dog show in the world

On Friday it was gundog day at Crufts and eagerly awaited here at Oakberrow.  Unfortunately we could only take Gin as Foster is docked and therefore not eligible to compete at Crufts.

Gin was entered in the Picker up class in the Gamekeepers section but did not win anything in that class - however the rest of the day improved.  In the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Breed classes under breed specialist Sheila Gray, Gin and her daughters did really well.   First of all Ginger Lillie Around Oakberrow owned by Yvonne was a creditable 2nd in a huge class (post graduate), followed by Incahoots at Galicar owned by Jo Cairns who won the Limit class.  Mum was next to compete in the top class - Open and the judge awarded here a 5th place in this good sized class.

We then went back to the Gamekeepers classes where Gin together with Smartie and Lily were entered in the Team for Madresfield Shoot - so Steve, Jan and Sue got themselves ready and looked a very well matched team and we were over the moon winning 3rd place in tough competition.

After what was a very long day we then made our way wearily back to the car but delighted with our day at Crufts.

Happy New Year

We have been very busy at Oakberrow over the festive season attending shows, sorting out the ewes for lambing and going shooting.  The first batch of texel ewes are due to lamb from 22 January and we have brought them home to Oakberrow together with the first Ryelands and 2 of the Greyfaced Dartmoors, Dot and Willow.

Foster went to Stourbridge Show held at Perdiswell Leisure Centre on the 28 December and he won best AVNSC Gundog under judge Ray Scholes and then went on to win Gundog Group 2.  On New Years Day Foster and Gin went to Coventry Ladies Kennel Society show held at the Sky Blue Connexion.  Foster won Best of Breed and Gin Reserve Best AVNSC both under judge Rob McMaster.  In between the shows they both have been out at Madresfield shoot and Abbots Court Shoot picking up.  Also delighted that our friends Richard Stafford and Ed Casey Farnfield Gundogs had a wonderful weekend with Richard's labrador winning Best in Show on New Years Day and Ed's Dalmation winning Best in Show on 2nd January at Worcester and Malvern Canine Society which I am Chairman of.

Today we have just come back from Mike's Shoot at Abbots Court and although not a busy day for the dogs, the work they did have was testing and we are delighted with the boys - Stowford, Foster and OB.
