RYELANDS, COLOURED RYELANDS, BLUE TEXELS LAMBS MV ACCREDITED

Ryeland lamb and mumAt Oakberrow we had a great lambing and Steve and I are delighted with the offspring for all our breeds.

Please see pages for further information.

We have become an Accredited Flock for all breeds due to the Blue Texels.  However those who are interested in buying stock they are also available to non accredited flocks.  The MV Accreditation does mean they have a high health status.

The show season is well underway but would like to point out that we do have courses for showing sheep and also if you are buying your first sheep then attending one of our husbandry courses could be of interest to you.

Sheep Husbandry, Sheep Care, Show Preparation for sheep

Champion Coloured Ryeland Burwarton showOur lambing courses were a great success and we had a fun bunch of people attending and fantastic feedback from them.

The time of year is around the corner for those interested in purchasing sheep so need to learn more about the intricacices of choosing your sheep as well as looking afer them.  Our courses will cover this and be made bespoke to  your requirements.

Show Preparation of sheep - the summer show scene will soon be upon us and if you want to learn how to choose the prizewinners, prepare them to look their best for the show ring, how to show and ring etiquette, etc.

If any of these tick your box, please get in touch to book a course.  Please get in touch if you have any questions or wish to book a slot.   dsg.oakberrow@gmail.com  or 07971675162

GREAT DAY AT MORETON IN MARSH SHOW SATURDAY

National Ryeland Cham;pion 2016We had a good day showing the Ryelands at Moreton Show on Saturday 7th September.  Steve and I took along a team of 6 ryelands.

The team consisted of 2 rams - Widgits Xemplar and Oakberrow Yahoo who were 1st and 2nd in the Ram class.  The handsome Xemplar was awarded Breed Champon by judge Stephen Unwin.  In the ram lamb class we showed Oakberrow Zodiac and delighted that he won this class.  Zodiac went from the show to his new home with Katie James.

Our beautiful breeding ewe - V31 - won the breeding ewe.  She was the Ryeland National Champion in 2016, that is her on the photo.  Then our shearling ewe who is sired by Cagedale Windfall won a strong shearling class and our baby ewe lamb was 2nd in a strong class.

Next show will be the Hereford and Marches Regional Ryeland Lamb show which is held in conjunction with the Malvern Autumn Show.  We have gone mad and entered 10 lambs between Ryelands and Coloureds.

Judges are John and Suzanne Donovan on Saturday and Sally Lloyd for Sunday judging the pairs classes.

SHOW SEASON IS ON THE WAY - SHOW PREPARATION AND HUSBANDRY

Ryeland National Champion - Oakberrow eweLambing is over at Oakberrow.  It has gone well for all the breeds and we are really excited about looking at the lambs to see who is going to be our star or should I say stars to join the Shows Team for 2019.

Are you thinking about showing your sheep, then we would love to help with a course starting from how to choose your sheep for the show ring, preparing the sheep and teaching you how to show, ring etiquette.  If interested then get in touch all you competitive people.

Sheep husbandry is 12 months of the year, so if you are thinking about joining the lovely world of sheep then come along for our course, or if you have your first sheep and want to learn more about how to look after them again, do get in touch.

LAMBING HAS STARTED AT OAKBERROW 2018

Greyface Dartmoors in lambing shedGreat - at last we have started lambing.  The first lambs to be born were triplets to S8 our show ewe and she has 2 boys and a girl who are all doing well.  They were born on 31st Jan.  Following on from that our beautiful Antonia (Greyfaced Dartmoor) had two pretty girls on Sunday 4 February and then last night my little Babe (Greyfaced Dartmoor) had her daughter.

From the 8th to the 10th we have nine ewes to lamb so it will be getting pretty busy at Oakberrow and then the remaining are all following on mostly during February.  We are lambing 43 ewes this year which is more than in 2017.

Lambing courses - we have flexibility as there is something due to lamb every day for the remainder of the month and then running into March, so if interested in a course do please get in touch.
