LAMBING STARTS ON 4TH FEBRUARY - still some space available for lambing courses

Feeding in the barnThe weather has been dreadful, but the expectant girls are all safely tucked up in the barn.  They enjoyed the last few frosty days.

The first ewe to lamb will be one of our shearling Greyface Dartmoors who is expecting a single.  It is always very exciting waiting for the first lamb to appear.

If interested we do still have a few spaces available for lambing courses.  So why not come along to Oakberrow and learn about lambing and hopefully you will go home with more confidence when it comes to your lambing time.

Love to hear from you and any questions, please ask.  01531 640102/07971675162 or dsg.oakberrow@gmail.com

LAMBING COURSES 2020 - DATES ANNOUNCED

ryeland lambsThe girls have all been scanned and delighted with results - plenty of twins and singles and two sets of triplets.  We will be lambing Ryelands, Coloured Ryelands, Greyface Dartmoors and a couple of Texels.

Lambing will commence from 4th February 2020 and for the whole month, which gives us great flexibility for lambing course dates.  We do not restrict to weekends but also do during the week and numbers are limited to four people per course.

The day starts at 10am and we would normally finish about 4pm, but this is dependent on what is happening in the lambing shed.

Lunch is provided and you have a take-away information pack.

To book your day please contact either Steve or Doreen by email - dsg.oakberrow@gmail.com or phone and have a chat on 01531 640102 or 07971675162.

If you are travelling far there are a number of very good B&Bs in the area.

LAMBING COURSES 2020

Students first lambingAll our rams are out from the ewes and the ewes will be scanned early in December.

After then we can announce the lambing dates.  Fingers crossed but if all the ewes are in lamb it looks like we will start mid-February, but I will post the dates after the ewes have been scanned.

For 2020 we are lambing Ryelands, Coloured Ryelands, Greyface Dartmoors and a few commercial ewes.

We like to keep the numbers attending a course to a maximum of 4 people so we can ensure that you receive as far as possible one-to-one training.  The day starts at 10am and finishes at approximately 4pm.  You take away a lambing pack with lots of information.  Lunch and refreshments are provided.

If interested in joining us please get in touch and your name can be included on our list.  Contact us on dsg.oakberrow@gmail.com or 07971675162/01531 640102.  We are based in Herefordshire and there are some lovely B&Bs close by if you have a long way to travel.

Look forward to welcoming you to Oakberrow in 2020.

GREAT DAY AT MORETON IN MARSH SHOW SATURDAY

National Ryeland Cham;pion 2016We had a good day showing the Ryelands at Moreton Show on Saturday 7th September.  Steve and I took along a team of 6 ryelands.

The team consisted of 2 rams - Widgits Xemplar and Oakberrow Yahoo who were 1st and 2nd in the Ram class.  The handsome Xemplar was awarded Breed Champon by judge Stephen Unwin.  In the ram lamb class we showed Oakberrow Zodiac and delighted that he won this class.  Zodiac went from the show to his new home with Katie James.

Our beautiful breeding ewe - V31 - won the breeding ewe.  She was the Ryeland National Champion in 2016, that is her on the photo.  Then our shearling ewe who is sired by Cagedale Windfall won a strong shearling class and our baby ewe lamb was 2nd in a strong class.

Next show will be the Hereford and Marches Regional Ryeland Lamb show which is held in conjunction with the Malvern Autumn Show.  We have gone mad and entered 10 lambs between Ryelands and Coloureds.

Judges are John and Suzanne Donovan on Saturday and Sally Lloyd for Sunday judging the pairs classes.
